CREW TRANSFER 16
"Offshore Interceptor", measures 16.1m in length with a beam of 5.6m. A pair of Caterpillar C18's, rated 746kW and driving HamiltonJet 422 water jets through ZF 2000 gearboxes, provides power. With the NSCV 1B Class notation, "Offshore Interceptor", has the unusual distinction of bulkheads between engines and jets.
Speed is high, with a cruising speed of 25 knots and a maximum speed of 32 knots, ensuring "Offshore Interceptor"is suitable for the as-required task of ambulance, as well as providing short transit times.
The owners chose the Catamaran hull form principally for the ease, safety and speed of boarding, as well as access through bulwark doors on both sides and bow and stern ramps. The ramp telescopes from the foredeck, giving direct access to the forward door of the wheelhouse. The passenger seating, all within the air-conditioned accommodation, is on the main deck level down four steps.
Onboard, passenger comfort has received considerable attention. The two onboard toilets, entered from the aft deck, also have showers. Passenger seating, 32 in all, are by Beurteaux, and sound and vibration has been insulated to a high and effective level, reducing fatique.
Whilst a deliberate strategy to offer a ferry style comfort and to treat occupants as passengers rather than workers in transit, it is still a workboat, and the interior finish is suited to fire hose-style maintenance for easy cleaning.
The aft deck features a moon pool, strengthening to carry a knuckle boom crane, and the ability to carry eight pallets.
The vessel design, by Global Marine Design, ( MarineKits) features a high freeboard to avoid tunnel slap, with an exceptionally strong bow and stern, all protected by fendering of an equal standard.
The wheelhouse with a forward raked windscreen is mounted high and delivers excellent all round visibility through a large glass area. The air-conditioning output is more than sufficient to handle Pilbara heat.
The vessl has been provided with containment systems for ALL liquids and wastes, ensuring it is well suited to environmentally sensitive marine ecosystems.
